The roll-out of Martha's Rule in NHS hospitals in England has started, aiming to bring about "potentially life-saving changes in care" for patients.

Martha's Rule includes three key components:

  • a 24/7 escalation process for patients, families, and NHS staff

  • formal recording of daily health insights from families

  • a monitoring system to track deterioration.

The early results suggest the rule is effective in improving care. There are plans to expand its implementation based on ongoing evaluation.
