Have you heard of the Pharmacy First scheme?

Writer: Healthwatch HampshireHealthwatch Hampshire

The Pharmacy First scheme allows local pharmacies to treat certain conditions with prescription-only medicines without needing a GP visit

You can now be treated for the following at your local pharmacy:

  • Sinusitis (for patients aged 12 years and over only)

  • Sore throat (aged 5+)

  • Earache (aged 1 year-17)

  • Infected insect bite (aged 1 year+)

  • Impetigo (aged 18 years+)

  • Shingles (aged 18 years+)

  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (women aged 16 to 64)

If you feel unwell, visit a participating pharmacy for a private consultation with the pharmacist. You may be referred by a GP or the 111 helpline if they believe the pharmacy can assist. Pharmacists can also provide immediate help if you ask.
