Dementia Action Week Events 2024

Dementia Action Week is happening from 13th-19th May 2024 across the UK - it's aim is to take action to improve the rate of dementia diagnosis.


There are so many events going on across Hampshire, so we decided to do a round up!


Winchester (from Dementia Friendly Winchester)



Monday, May 13


Information Drop-in

The Arc, on Jewry Street, Winchester SO23 8SB

Anytime from 10am to 12noon.

Speak to members of the Dementia Friendly Winchester team about local support organisations and activities are available for those living with dementia and their carers


Coffee and cake get-together

Cabinet Rooms, Winchester

Information Afternoon

Winchester Sport and Leisure Park, Bar End Road, Winchester, SO23 9NR

Free taster sessions of gentle exercise sessions and a variety of local organisations present who provide dementia support will be there.

Wednesday, May 15


‘Welcome to Wednesday’ session

Winchester Baptist Church, City Road, Winchester SO23 8SD

10am to noon.

Play table games, enjoy refreshments, reminisce or just chat.


Dementia friendly film screening of ‘Back to the Future Part II’

Everyman cinema, Southgate Street, Winchester SO23 9EG.

Film starts 10.30am, arrive from 10am

Free but donations welcome on the day for ‘Dementia Friendly Winchester.’


Afternoon tea and cake with a live singer

Members of other ‘Dementia Friendly Winchester’ will also be available to talk to about services they offer


Friday, May 17


‘Dementia Bus’ virtual dementia tour – to see the world how someone with dementia may perceive it

5 to 6 minute tour is particularly helpful to those who want to better support customers, clients or recently-diagnosed loved ones.

A fun afternoon singing your favourite songs with the Braishfield Ukulele Music  Society (BUMS)

                                                

Tuesday 21st May:


Puzzles & Games

Crosfield Hall Annexe, Broadwater Road, Romsey

11am – 1pm, from puzzles to parachute games, bowling to board games

                                                 

 

Salisbury Information Event

10am – 5pm, meet local organisations offering support and activities.

Understanding Dementia:

Location: Hart’s Green Garden, Edenbrook Country Park, Pale Lane, RG27 8DH

Come along and gain a better understanding of what it is like to live with dementia. This can help you to support someone with the condition to live well.
